La Tania Undiscovered

La Tania lies in the Courchevel Valley between Meribel and Courchevel. It is in a perfect ski location yet it remains relatively hidden as a holiday destination.

La Tania’s main features are its size – although it houses various apartment blocks, chalets and hotels it is very compact around a centre of restaurants, bars, shops and a cinema, the fact that it is traffic-free meaning its peaceful and fresh, and its atmosphere – most small ski resorts lack charm and spirit but La Tania oozes it.

And also the fact that it’s almost central to the world’s biggest linked ski area and world renowned pistes.
The combination of these factors make the resort a brilliant place for a family holiday, the children can explore freely and never be too far away while the parents can relax with a vin chaud.

Being situated right on the piste and in the middle of the Three Valleys, keen skiers wouldn’t lose a second’s ski time commuting to the slopes and after one chairlift Courchevel and Meribel are at your feet with Val Thorens over the hill.

Still relatively cheap and without Courchevel’s airs and graces or Val Thorens’ grand size, La Tania is a charming manageable resort with something for everyone.

Ski Savvy, the Three Valley package holiday specialist do packages to La Tania starting at £352 pp for a week in January including flights, transfer and accommodation (based on 4 sharing). Check out www.ski-savvy.com for more information.

January 2012 Newsletter

Hello J

Happy New Year from Ski Savvy quarters! 2012 seems to have come upon us at an astonishing rate and if the snow of the past week is anything to go by, we are looking forward to 2012 being an excellent year for lots of powder and amazing skiing! Over a metre of snow fell last Saturday alone and rumours of 80cm of snow that were due to fall yesterday appear to have come true.

Ski Savvy has also had an exciting month – a recent press release proved that were are the cheapest for many more ski weeks to the exact same apartments and hotels in Meribel, Mottaret, Brides Les Bains and La Tania as our main competitors for the same package, one of main principle company aims.

So, time to prove it! As we go into the new year we have some great ski holiday deals to take advantage of; at our cheap budget end we have recently refurbished Le Grand Chalet apartments in Brides Les Bains centre for as low as £211pp based on 4 sharing for 28th January.

For ski-in, ski-out, Le Hameau apartments in Meribel-Mottaret are unbeatable for from £283pp. At our last price check on 20th December we were on average over £50 cheaper per person per week than our cheapest competitor for this accommodation, a fact we are very proud of considering the great value of these apartments!

For a more luxurious holiday, Hotel Altis Val Vert in Brides Les Bains is in an excellent location, less than 100m to the gondola up to Meribel, from £411pp based on 2 sharing with use of jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, free wifi and cosy cocktail bar and can be booked on a half board basis for only £10 extra per person per night.

Most holidays are available from Liverpool, London Gatwick, Glasgow and Belfast. Prices are inclusive of a low-cost flight so as their costs rise, so will ours, so don’t delay in booking! Prices also include transfers, accommodation and 24/7 fluent French speaking rep service in resort.

And as the snow continues to fall it seems we have had more up until now than the whole of last season put together! Now is the perfect time to get booking that great ski deal with Ski Savvy!

We hope to see you all out in France soon,

Best Wishes,

Kirsty and the Ski Savvy Team

Ski Savvy's 4 Resorts

Meribel – Normally, having lived in a place you can see it has some bad points as well as good. I struggle with Meribel. It has a friendly, cosy atmosphere for visitors and residents alike. It has something for everyone – sports centre, bars, restaurants, cinema, live-music. It is surrounded by pistes so getting skiing in a morning is easy peasy. One unusual thing in a French town is that most people are English but I doubt anyone could class this as a bad thing, although French language practise is limited, usually to a Merci to the pisteys or bus drivers around resort. And, as you’d expect food and drink is quite expensive. Apart from that, perfection.

Mottaret – Mottaret is THE place to stay for snow enthusiast. No accommodation is further than 50m from the piste so bouncing out of bed straight onto your board/ skis is the norm. It is possible to ski Courchevel and Val Thorens by one gondola each, at the top of which the Three Valleys really are at your feet. Nightlife is a little more subdued but a few cosy bars and restaurants go on into the small hours and a regular bus service to Meribel keeps the night-owls happy.

Brides les Bains – When walking through the spa town of Brides, it’s like discovering a hidden gem. The perfect place for a cheap but top value ski holiday, some luxury hotels do half board deals at astonishingly low prices. At 600m Brides doesn’t see much snow but from early March onwards it gets to shorts and t-shirt weather with skiing still in full swing higher up. The ideal sun/ski holiday with a bit of sunbathing thrown in! It has easy access to the whole 3 Valleys by taking a 25 min gondola ride up to Meribel, its very charming and typically French, Brides is much cheaper than up top and has its own traditional bakery, restaurants, food and ski shops, it even has its own spa, cinema and casino!

La Tania – Even though La Tania lies in the Courchevel Valley it is like Meribel’s little sister. Great for families, it is small, cosy, car-free and based around the piste. The Ski Lodge, a one-stop bar/ restaurant serves mouth-watering top value dishes by day and hosts après-ski sessions, themed evenings and happy hours by night. A choice of other restaurants and small bars makes this an excellent little resort for all.

December has started! 10 days until Meribel opens it's doors to the Trois Vallees ski world and also 10 days until we head out for the winter in preparation for the season ahead :-). Winter tyres are on and woolly hat is bought..! The greenness of the lower slopes is causing anxiety to some but snow is on the horizon and moving in, roughly 25cm is forecast to come this weekend alone! So keep up the snow dances and lie back to watch the snow fall!
